The people who built these defensive structures did not leave any more traces of themselves, so historians know little about this period of development of Sardinia. Later the Phoenicians and Carthaginians lived there. After the Punic War (238 BC) Sardinia became a Roman province.

Sardinia’s nature

Until recently, it was one of the poorest regions of Italy, today it is one of the most prosperous. Sardinia has 25% of all Italian beaches, and here the warmest and cleanest water of the entire Mediterranean coast, and the sand is so soft and fine, which is considered a national treasure of the island. Only about 15% of Sardinia is covered by a thin layer of fertile soil, so this rocky island – not the best place for plant life. Sardinia is dominated by mountains and hills. But the fertile hills of Gallura and the Emerald Coast with a series of endless white beaches, cliffs and islets, natural harbors bizarre shapes will delight even the most discerning tourist fantastic views and an incredible variety of natural wonders.

Cities and tourist areas of Sardinia

The cultural and administrative center of Sardinia is Cagliari. Located on the trade route between Africa and the Italian cities, Cagliari was often attacked by stronger neighbors in the Middle Ages. As a result, this also affected the very architectural appearance of the regional capital. Several fortresses and towers from the time of Pisa have survived here. This is where most of the tourist routes on the island originate. Cagliari is interesting with its historical and cultural monuments. The medieval town of Bosa impresses tourists with its special charm.
